That really sucks. Losing a rodent is harder than losing a dog in a lot of ways, because you are wholly responsible for their care and well being. My hamster died of dysentary about two months after I got him.
Well I have one dog, since the other died of cancer two years ago. He was my best friend. What I meant was, a hamster or gerbil is very fragile and completely defenseless. A dog is to a certain degree capable of taking care of itself, whereas gerbils and hamsters are so thoroughly displaced from their natural environ that everything about them has to be carefully attended to in order for them to simply survive, let alone thrive.
